Since 2005, historical, theoretical, technical, poetic texts and lists of words on the question of Manteau (Mantle from geology to the coat), Ombre (shadow), and Paysage (Landscape) compose a corpus, true matrix from which the artists deploy a specific device for each place. For this project, the library of Kerguehennec Castle was an ideal environment to host such a project.
For example, the question of the shadow (from a previous project) met that of the mantle: the vocabulary of geology, seismology, and scholarly texts on the interior of the Earth through history (Lucretia, Newton, Buffon ...) met the phenomenology of the shadow. To touch the materiality of an unspeakable landscape, under our feet, by a sound and textual representation.
As a process of accumulation, then of a long-term sedimentation, this project was structured in strata of sounds and words. 3 main periods : geological mantle, process, coat - and 3 intermediate cycles - from sound recordings into the Michaële-Andréa Schatt studio - make the bulk of this laminate.
